Senior Series - Dominic Johnson

My journey to where I am now has been a rollercoaster. I've had multiple injuries, lost coaches, and struggled to fit in at Hawken. The most important things I've learned at Hawken are how to respond to loss, how to believe in yourself through hard work and self-love, and how to use the power that has been bestowed upon you.

One of my many passions is football. It has brought me joy, love, and happiness since I was six years old. Because of the many losses I've been a part of that eventually turned into big wins, playing football at Hawken has taught me to never give up on my abilities as a leader and gifted player.

Basketball taught me how to take care of my body and how to balance school and sports when I'm tired. Throughout the program, I've shared many memories with special people, particularly Coach Nugent and Coach Bratten. These guys have been great to talk to and have shared with me the difficult and memorable journey on the basketball court.

Track surprised me greatly. I had never run track until my junior year, when I walked away with gold medals and records. Track taught me the importance of reacting instinctively in competitive situations.

Overall, my time as a Hawken athlete has been a long journey that has shaped me as a person and competitor. I believe that everything happens for a reason, and while my path at Hawken has not been easy, it has been unforgettable and unique. My senior year marked the culmination of my contributions to what was once a struggling program and is now an upcoming league-contending program.
